1981, Tubular Goods Test Center was set up in Baoji Petroleum Machinery Factory, renamed as Tubular Goods Test Research Center later.

1986, Ministry of Petroleum Industry decided to set up Tubular goods Quality Supervision/Inspection and Testing Center in Tubular Goods Test Research Center, renamed as Special Tube Quality Supervision and Inspection Center in Oil Industry later.

1987, General Administration of Quality Supervison, Spection and Quarantine decided to set up National Petroleum Tubular Quality Supervision/Inspection and Testing Center base on Special Tube Quality Supervision and Inspection Center in Oil Industry.

1988, TGRI was named China National Petroleum Company (CNPC) Tubular Goods Research Center.

1993, TGRI was named China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) Tubular Goods Research Institute.

1994, TGRI was moved from Baoji to Xi'an.

1999, CNPC Key Laboratory for Petroleum Pipe Mechanics and Environmental Behavior was established, renamed as Key Laboratory for Oil Tube Engineering later.

2004, CNCA approved the establishment of National Oil Tubular Goods Quality Supervision and Inspection Center.

2005, National Oil Tubular Goods Quality Supervision and Inspection Center was authorized.

2010, TGRI was renamed CNPC/PetroChina Tubular Goods Research Institute.

2013, Shaanxi Provincial Key Laboratory was established.

2015, State Key Laboratory for Performance and Structure Safety of Petroleum Tubular Goods and Equipment Materials was established.

2021, with the approval of the State Administration for Market Regulation, it was renamed as China Petroleum Engineering Materials Research Institute Co., Ltd.

2022, with the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, a national key laboratory for oil and gas drilling, production and transmission equipment will be established based on the State Key Laboratory for service behavior and structural safety of oil pipes and equipment materials.
